Heritage Line 2021

Crafting never-seen-before-flavors in the hard seltzer world that may be unfamiliar to some, but to Lunar are nostalgic and emblematic of our upbringing and heritage. Heritage Line 2022: Sunset Edition

The Heritage Line: Sunset Edition, inspired by sunset walks alongside Asia's beaches. The Heritage Line which features three limited edition flavors, developed with the chefs of three NYC restaurants: Win Son, Bonnie's, and Jeju Noodle Bar. All three cans have illustrations done by me based of the chef's story they would like to convey.

Win Son

Dubbed as “Asia’s eternal queen of pop” or “Asia’s singing queen,” Teresa Teng was born in 1953 in Taiwan and passed away in 1995 after a 30-year career as the first international Asian musician superstar. In honor of her, Taiwanese-American owner of Win Son, Josh Ku, named one of their inaugural cocktails after the international superstar in hopes of amplifying her legacy to the local Brooklyn audience.

Design Inspo: Teresa Teng doing a karaoke duet with Win Son’s bear mascot, with the art style based off one of her album covers.

Bonnie’s

Bonnie's is a Cantonese-American restaurant in Williamsburg, NY by Brooklyn native Calvin Eng.

The restaurant is named after his mother, Bonnie, who taught him everything he knows about Cantonese cooking.

Every part of the dining experience at Bonnie's is Calvin's tribute and nod to his mother and his Asian American upbringing.

Design Inspo: Growing up, Cantonese-American chef Calvin Eng's mother always kept preserved kumquats in salt in the fridge. Like many Chinese mothers, she would often steep the kumquats with hot water like tea as a cold and sore throat remedy for her kids. The design is based off the Chinese porcelain cups straight from Calvin’s cabinet his mom’s kumquat tea would be served in.

Jeju Noodle Bar

Jeju Noodle Bar, nestled in the heart of West Village, is dedicated to presenting the craft of ramyun, the Korean equivalent of Japanese ramen.

Chef Douglas Kim uses distinct Korean flavors and has instantly gained a cult following due to his use of ingredients like kimchi, braised seaweed, confit mushroom “nah mul” style and garlic plankton oil.
Traditionally used as an ingredient in Eastern Medicine, omija berry and its derivatives were considered a delicacy in Korea, believed to aid liver health, blood circulation, and cognitive focus.

Design Inspo: Jeju Island is an island in South Korea known for their Haenyeo (diving women), female divers whose livelihood consists of harvesting sea life from the ocean. I thought, what if they were harvesting the Omija berries instead? I decided to base the style off of woodblock prints and limit the color to red for the redness of the Omija berries.

Working with the team at Pearl River Mart, Lunar partnered with Gold House, Asian American Arts Alliance and Silicon Valley Bank, and pulled together an inaugural Sunset Celebration to a fully sold-out reception at the iconic Chelsea Market for Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month 2022.

The Lunar team along with Joanne Kwong combined an art walk featuring AAPI female artists (“SOFT SOLIDARITY" organized by A4), bites and tastings from our favorite restaurants, samples from rising AAPI-founded superstar brands, and Lunar's very first tiki bar where they served the new Heritage Line for 2022. The all-star lineup of 40+ partners include: Noodie, Kitsby, Homiah, Oddball, Win Son, Bonnie's, Mao's Bao, Tea and Milk, Kimbap Lab, Jing Fong, and Pearl River Mart Foods.
